Southern Neurosurgery is proud to share that Dr. Betsy Grunch has been named a 2027 Top Doctor by The Atlantan and Modern Luxury Medicine + Doctors, as listed by Castle Connolly Top Doctors®. The honor recognizes physicians whose skill and care have earned the respect of their fellow doctors.
What Is Castle Connolly?
Castle Connolly is a healthcare research company that has been identifying top doctors in the United States since 1991. Its Top Doctors list is published on castleconnolly.com and in partner magazines across the country, including The Atlantan‘s annual Top Doctors list.
How Top Doctors Are Chosen
A doctor can’t apply for this list, and no one can pay to be on it. Every Castle Connolly Top Doctor starts with a nomination from another physician. A physician-led research team then reviews each nominee’s training, professional record and standing in their field before making a selection. Castle Connolly says its Top Doctors represent about the top 7% of physicians nationwide.
That peer-nominated process is what makes the recognition meaningful. Doctors know which surgeons they would trust with their own families, and this list reflects those choices.
What This Means for Patients
Choosing a surgeon is a big decision. An honor like this is one helpful signal, but it should never be the only one. Dr. Grunch encourages every patient to ask questions: How often does the surgeon do this procedure? What are all of my options, including ones that don’t involve surgery? What will recovery look like? Our guide to choosing a spine surgeon walks through the questions worth asking.
